Festival Celebrating Appalachian Heritage Coming to Carter County Carter County, KY — An exciting community festival celebrating the traditions, natural wisdom, and creative spirit of the Appalachian region is coming to Carter County this spring. The AppalachiaKY Herb & Handcraft Heritage Festival will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the City Park Block in Grayson, Kentucky. The event is planned as a free, family-friendly community gathering designed to bring together residents and visitors from across all Carter County communities and the surrounding Appalachian region. Festival organizers say the event was created to celebrate the cultural traditions that have shaped life in Carter County and throughout Appalachia for generations. The festival will highlight Appalachian heritage, herbal knowledge, handmade crafts, traditional skills, and local artistry while creating an opportunity for neighbors across Carter County to come together in a shared community celebration. Throughout the day, attendees can expect artisan vendors, herbal and plant education, traditional handcraft demonstrations, homesteading skills, live music, local food, and family-friendly activities. The event aims to showcase the creativity and knowledge of local makers, growers, educators, and musicians. Organizers hope the festival will grow into a signature regional bi-annual event that celebrates the people, plants, traditions, and talents found throughout Carter County and Eastern Kentucky. Local artists, herbalists, homesteaders, musicians, demonstrators, and community organizations are invited to participate. Businesses and civic groups throughout Carter County are also encouraged to support the festival as community partners through sponsorships, donations, or volunteer participation. “The goal of this festival is to celebrate and preserve the traditions that make our Appalachian communities unique,” organizers said. “Carter County has a rich heritage of craftsmanship, herbal knowledge, and neighborly community spirit, and this festival is a way to honor and share those traditions with future generations.” Those interested in participating, volunteering, or becoming a community partner can contact: Pamela Howard Email: [email protected] Phone: 606-465-5831 Follow festival happenings on the Facebook page.
